Nice to hear from a male on this subject. I can't imagine being in a location and never experiencing the culture. Things aren't perfect in the U.S. but at least we all have rights!

I met a woman who said she 'thoroughly enjoyed' her time out in 'Soddy'. Turns out, in 3 years, she NEVER left the expat compound!

I was out there in the Gulf War ... seems things haven't changed!

What a fascinating article. From all I hear, you are right and it is still exactly as you describe in Saudi. Many middle eastern countries have more tolerant rules for westerners but Saudi does not seem to. It must be a very interesting experience in retrospect although tough at the time!
